چکیده
Here P is the plant system concerned, C is the controller and the signal r, y, a, u and n are the reference, system output, control input, output disturbance and sensor noise respectively. Classical control systems design emphasizes the securing of a number of conflicting objectives for this feedback system such as; . securing closed loop stability from each external input to the loop signals u and y. (We refer to a controller C(8) achieving this as [internally] stabilizing the plant P(s).)

Ethical Perspective: Five Unacceptable Trade-offs on the Path to Universal Health Coverage
This article discusses what ethicists have called “unacceptable trade-offs” in health policy choices related to universal health coverage (UHC). Since the fiscal space is constrained, trade-offs need to be made. But some trade-offs are unacceptable on the path to universal coverage. Unacceptable choices include, among other examples from low-income countries, to expand coverage for services wit...
متن کاملA multi-objective decision-making approach to the journal submission problem
When researchers complete a manuscript, they need to choose a journal to which they will submit the study. This decision requires to navigate trade-offs between multiple objectives. One objective is to share the new knowledge as widely as possible. Citation counts can serve as a proxy to quantify this objective. A second objective is to minimize the time commitment put into sharing the research...
متن کاملMultiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM): From Paradigm Lost to Paradigm Regained?*
Because trade-offs (Pareto optimal, non-dominated or efficient sets) are not properties of criteria or objectives, but of sets of feasible alternatives, the proper task of decision making is to work on designing proper sets of alternatives rather than assuming them to be fixed and given a priori. In fact, decision making takes place only when multiple criteria and trade-offs are present. All th...
متن کاملSingle-objective vs. Multiobjective Optimisation for Inte- grated Decision Support
In many optimisation problems, analysts are often confronted with multiobjective decision problems. The most common purpose of an analysis is to choose the best trade-offs among all the defined and conflicting objectives. However, many optimisation studies are formulated as a problem whose goal is to find the “best” solution, which corresponds to the minimum or maximum value of a single objecti...
